What was I doing 15 years ago today?

June26

I saw this on another blog, and thought it might be fun! 15 years ago today would be June 26th, 2001. What was I doing then?

I would have been 19 years old, turning 20 in one month. I didn’t drink yet (not till 21). I was playing a lot of ultimate frisbee, and probably summer lague. I had just finished my second year of college and I am pretty sure I was taking summer classes. I was loving college and learning. I am pretty sure I was taking Arabic, Biblical Hebrew, and some history and terrorism classes. I was still doing EmuHQ.com but growing tired of it. I didn’t have a girlfriend and wasn’t very social. I didn’t have a job beyond EmuHQ. I hadn’t really traveled yet beyond a high school exchange with Germany. I had high-speed internet and I was probably still playing some counter strike. I didn’t know what I wanted to do long term, but I was loving running websites and making money from it. I was living in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at home, and about to move into Carlson Terrace with Joel.

In 3 months September 11th would happen. I remember watching it live because I happened to wake up early and turn on the news on my little 13 in VCR/TV (Carlson Terrace had free basic cable). I was prepping for class but ended up sitting down and watching it all unfold. Given I was studying security studies it was kinda like watching your subject happen. Especially given my interest in religion, security studies, and the middle east.

18 months later in December 2012 I took a month long trip to Turkey over Christmas break. I spent a lot of that time wandering, learning, and writing business ideas in my note book on that trip. It was an amazing trip. I then came home and launched a web hosting business after moving on from EmuHQ.

This is bwb’s personal blog, so he can share his thoughts with the world, however scary or silly they might be. Plus family and friends can track what I am up to, and where I am in the world.

I am pretty simple. I love Mangos. I love the ocean (although mostly at sunset, as I’m a ginger). I love to travel, eat exotic food, do long bike rides, read, and use my imagination. At some point, I decided it was better to be a pirate captain than an admiral. I am a globalist and see the entire world as my responsibility and playground. And I am married to an amazing woman who makes life even more fun :)! And we are now the proud parents of Calico Jack :).
