Chasing Giraffes & A Town In Romania

November2

Two things:

1. Giraffe’s are wicked fast.

2. I don’t know what they taste like, but I would imagine it is delicious. Especially the neck part of them.

I was telling Lindsey a story about South Africa last week and didn’t want to ever forget chasing Giraffes through the bush with Karl and a few Germans (world cup trip).

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Also, I was on a tour in Romania and the guide told us the name of the town we were driving through was something I can’t pronounce, and that when translated to english it means: “the place where wolves fuck”. Which is a pretty awesome name for a town, I wasn’t sure if it was one word or two in Romanian. But equally awesome is if Romanian has a single word that means something so elaborate.

Two travel stories I never want to forget :)

Surfing, Aquarium, And Bye South Africa

July11

Well today is the World Cup final and hopefully tomorrow I’m going on a hike/drive out to Cape Point and then flying to Ireland on Tuesday and then Denver a few days later. The games have been amazing and Cape Town very friendly. South Africa has a lot of possibilities and an amazing population, but also a lot of challenges, hopefully they are able to overcome them! I’ll be rooting for them!

I went surfing for the first time last week which was awesome, it was way easier then snow boarding and caught my first wave in the first 2.5 hours (good instructor too). I fell on the other 50 waves but falling is almost as fun when the bottom is sandy. The waves picked up the second half of the day and after getting hammered a few times and after my feet went numb I switched to a boogie board. Fun day and going to try to spend an entire week learning to surf at some point soon (some place with warmer water). They had a very nice shark warning flag system too, really makes you feel safe… Also, wet suits are awesome and make you feel like a ninja.

Yesterday we went to the Cape Town aquarium which was awesome, I love aquariums. Then ate all you can eat sushi with some friends and watched the third place game. Good night!

And, I’m so glad Uruguay lost again, Suarez tried his best to drive and cheat and ruin the spirit of the game further against the German, I hope Karma’s cold grip haunts him the rest of his life.

Lion Head Moutain – Conquered!

July1

I’ve been a bit under the weather the last few days, but rallied today and ran and climbed Lion’s Head. Long steep climb but pretty fun and awesome view from the top.

We are going to Gordon’s beach tomorrow, no games for a few days. We have one game left, a quarter final in cape town! We saw Spain versus Portugal Tuesday and it was clear Spain was far better. Fantastic ref too for not calling fouls on any of their sissy diving shit (the 9th circle of hell is reserved for divers according to my interpretation of Dante’s work).

South African Beach!

June25

The weather has been perfect thus far. So today we woke up and rode the metro for 45 min to one of the “warmer” beaches, but just our luck you can’t see 30 feet through fog… So we eat some lunch, we read, and drink warm beverages, still nothing and it is 2pm. So we walk along the beach and it finally starts to lift and warm up, we change into our swim suits and I swear in a matter of about 10 minutes heavier thicker foggier fog rolls in… We will be back as it looks like a great beach to learn to surf and boogie board. And we feel very safe given their flag system to warn us when great white sharks are nearby and you should get out of the water…

To see the crazy fog just take a look at the below photos, one is taken during the short window where the sun was out and the fog starting to lift, the others as soon as it came back, you literally couldn’t see people surfing just 30 feet out.

First World Cup Game!

June25

We survived our first game which was Cameroon versus the Netherlands. We pre gamed a little too hard but were none the worst for wear. And I will say in our defense it is a long walk to the stadium and really really fun to walk all the way with tons of cheering fans moving from bar to crazy dance thing to bar to live music on the street to bar. And apart from getting pretty lost leaving the stadium it was an awesome experience! Our next game is pretty far away and requires a 12 hour bus ride, but we got really lucky and are seeing England versus Germany which hopefully is one of the most brutal soccer games seen yet. And hopefully the USA beats Ghana so we can party with everyone once they get to the semis!

Click the first image as its a big panoramic of the stadium and really really cool to see what a monster it is. I was really impressed as you have a great view of the players and everything from everywhere!

USA Advances In World Cup!

June23

What a great game with so many chances and in the end the USA finally scored to win their pool (they got robbed by a ref again and some bad finishes)!!!! Awesome game and great fan base here in Cape Town to cheer them on!

I almost wish they had gotten second in our pool as I’m going to see that game live! So instead I’ll see England and some other team, hopefully Germany. I will be cheering for whoever is playing England, I usually cheer for England but I just watched some English fucker try to pick a fight with some Americans for no reason down on the street. So fuck them, they should be used to coming in second place.

South Africa Day 1

June15

The apartment is fantastic which you can see below, and watched two games in a local bar today and had a great time. The weird food item is a “Russian Dog” which was actually quite good, and I haven’t tried the blueberry energy drink but will report on my findings shortly. South African wine is also quite good.

Staying In Denver Another Year.

January16

I’ve decided to stay in Denver for another year, so I’ll be here through June 2011 it sounds like. We are going to find a new place to live in April/May, hopefully closer to a neighborhood we like a little better. Next week I’m heading to Vegas for a big ultimate frisbee tournament plus it is going to be Dmarsh, BBustin, and my brother’s birthday. Should be fun. And then when I get back from that Rose and Steve will be here and going to spend a lot of that week skiing with them! And hopefully I’ll be going skiing during the week a few times after that, and working on cross country skiing as I would like to be good at that.

Work is going well, and just got really busy as we took on some additional business which is quite fun!

Travel wise the year is looking awesome. In a few months I’m taking a few weeks vacation to explore Japan! Then in April I’m going to Italy for a short weekend trip as Iris got a bid to Paganello (massive ultimate beach tournament), and I’m going to play with her mixed team. Extra fun as it should be a lot of Arkansas people and hopefully Daniel and Joel go. And then me and a friend scored tickets to the World Cup in South Africa which I will be going too in early July. South Africa is being nuts on airfare pricing but its a once in a life time opportunity, so worth it.

Oh, and I’m trying to complete the 100 Book Challenge for 2010, which means I’m trying to read 100 books in 2010. So roughly 9 books a month, so far I’m almost done with my 4th and almost on track. I’m posting mini reviews as I go too.

Also, here is an interview we did a few months ago for Work, I’m pretty proud of it as we don’t sound like idiots. Although I did repeat a lot of words over and over and over, oh well, she was really nice and it was fun!

This is bwb’s personal blog, so he can share his thoughts with the world, however scary or silly they might be. Plus family and friends can track what I am up to, and where I am in the world.

I am pretty simple. I love Mangos. I love the ocean (although mostly at sunset, as I’m a ginger). I love to travel, eat exotic food, do long bike rides, read, and use my imagination. At some point, I decided it was better to be a pirate captain than an admiral. I am a globalist and see the entire world as my responsibility and playground. And I am married to an amazing woman who makes life even more fun :)! And we are now the proud parents of Calico Jack :).
