Go watch Andor, it is amazing!

November9

I love Star Wars. I wrote to George Lucas when I was a kid, asking when he would make the prequels. He wrote back, and it is one of the few keepsakes I kept over the years.

So it made me sad that almost all the modern Star Wars movies are so bad. The only good one is Rogue 1. The rest are bad writing and bad storytelling. I even tried the new Obi-Wan series and gave up after three episodes. It could have been great; instead, it belly-flopped onto my screen.

So at first, I ignored my brother’s pleas to watch Andor. He told me it was not just good; it was REALLY good. I finally sat down to watch it, and he was right. It is fantastic storytelling, it is beautifully shot, and it has meaning. They actually know how to use a pause, how to make every word count, and how to tell a story without beating you over the head with it. Please go watch it!

I am so tired of the Marvel trash that looks and feels like a movie but has no plot, no characters, and no meaning. A huge chunk of modern movies are like movie mannequins, they look and sound like movies, but they lack the spirit of movies; they lack humanity. I can enjoy one of those empty, vapid “movies” occasionally, but now it seems like that is 75% of what they make.

I am looking forward to the next episode of Andor. I will watch anything Tony Gilroy is involved with and send him my heart filled thanks for making a real story.

RIP Sean Connery…

October31

I grew up watching him in Bond movies with my dad. He was always my favorite Bond, classic style for a different time. I also loved him in First Knight, The Rock, Hunt For Red October, Indiana Jones, Highlander, Bridge too far, and so many others. He is probably the only actor I can do a half-decent impression of.

There can only be one.

Movie Rec: Central Intelligience

June20

It has been a while since I’ve posted a movie rec, but I highly recommend Central Intelligience! It was the hardest I’ve laughed at a movie in over a year, Dwayne Johnson is hilarious, and Kevin Hart too. Go watch it! The unicorn bit made me choke i laughed so hard :) . I am hoping they get a sequel in there soon.

Watch this funny bit:

Movie Rec: Warrior

I strongly recommend watching the movie Warrior, fantastic movie! Not a lot of people saw it which is a shame. About family and brothers, all set in with a MMA / new American economy backdrop.

The MPAA Have Jumped The Shark: Chris Dodd You Are A Tool

January17

Listen at this idiocy by the MPAA and their mercenary leader Chris Dodd:

” It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.

A so-called “blackout” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals. It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage this “blackout” to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy.”

Clearly the guy is confused about what side he is on, he is the one on the sinking ship trying to bail water as fast as possible instead of building a better ship. Of course he is just a merc and making a living. It’s sad to see yet another failed business model sliding away and instead of learning from their stupid brother RIAA they continue down the same path.

Hey MPAA, here are some things to think about…

The internet is going to get faster and faster with bigger pipes. People want things to be easy, if you don’t provide an easy way to watch any movie or tv show someone else will. Before you run out of money I suggest building a robust platform where ANYONE can access your movies through an API and is charged for them. Then you can have Netflix competing with lots of other startups and you still get paid. Or just buy Netflix or Hulu and put all the movies/tv shows there and knock down the old archaic licensing system. If you can’t adapt you will die.

Political action to stunt the technological growth of your own country will not end well.

My Tombstone

December10

I had a random thought today, I would like my tomb stone to read “Mildly Competent”.

Inception – Go see it!

July17

I saw this yesterday and highly recommend it, creepy as hell but very entertaining. Similar to the Matrix in a lot of ways and the best movie since the first Matrix. I’d give it 4.5 out of 5 stars and it deserves 4 stars just for showing that you can make an original movie even if it is a big budget movie.

Braveheart = Awesome

August30

braveheartSuch a great movie, go watch it and realize how awesome it is… Bam!

Mel Gibson = Great Director.

The Hangover And Up – Both Fantastic!

June8

Fucking Hilarious

I’m going to call this one early, the funniest movie of 2009 is The Hangover, go watch it and be sure to check the trailer out! I laughed the entire time… which was dangerous as apparently a medium soda at a movie theater means 72oz, aka a soda swimming pool.

I also give Up best animation this year! Great story and I think it might actually be my third or fourth favorite movie from Pixar. Right after Monsters Inc, Nemo, and The Incredibles.

Wolverine and Angels and Demons

Wolverine: Suck

Angels and Demons: Ok but really killed the plot in a complicated way. Heard a few people getting confused, was funny.

Movie Review: Star Trek

May19

trek_top

Way to just take a cereal box plot and apply it to every universe you can buy the rights too. Suck. Sure it was entertaining but it could be so much more if you put some fraking thought into the movies you make. This will die after 1 to 2 sequels and we will be left until some director with some brass balls makes something a lot better.

Going to try Wolverine and Terminator next.

This is bwb’s personal blog, so he can share his thoughts with the world, however scary or silly they might be. Plus family and friends can track what I am up to, and where I am in the world.

I am pretty simple. I love Mangos. I love the ocean (although mostly at sunset, as I’m a ginger). I love to travel, eat exotic food, do long bike rides, read, and use my imagination. At some point, I decided it was better to be a pirate captain than an admiral. I am a globalist and see the entire world as my responsibility and playground. And I am married to an amazing woman who makes life even more fun :)! And we are now the proud parents of Calico Jack :).
