Winter Cleaning… Lots of old web pages and misc files.

November30

I’ve been cleaning out a lot of old hard drives and organizing and I found some really interesting stuff :).

I found a screenshot of the Twilight Doom mod which I helped create a few of the enemy characters in, I can still remember building a few of these guys camo pixel by pixel:

I found the original “Unofficial UltraHLE Site” that I started in high school:

And, eventually that became EmuHQ. Here are all the different EmuHQ web designs (and I think a lot of the backups and a wordpress design + database are now found):

And one from RomHQ, a short lived sister site:

Some very old screenshots of Bweeb INC’s webpage back in the day (high school / early college):

And a project called Harry Potter HQ from way way way back in the day, I don’t think it ever got past some planning phases :). I think this dates back to early college years.

Something I whipped together after a funny SouthPark episode to test some viral marketing:

And, here are a bunch of designs from starting my first web hosting company, unfortunately a few designs I can’t view just as html as they had so many includes I would have to set them up on hosting to grab a screenshot:

I found a ton of websites I created to test different ideas, affiliate tests, keywords tests, seo, etc. One that compared VOIP Providers, one that let you compare online stock brokers, and one that helped you find the best place to find WOW gold.

And, I found backups of the Hosting Network that Joel and I built way back in the day (Web Hosting Unleashed and 60+ sites). I even found backups of CP Site Saver, it allowed people to use cPanel from a desktop application. I found a failed but brilliant idea to team up with companies to do honest reviews, something called certifiedhostingreviews.com. It failed because it’s focus was too small, and later RatePoint popped up and now a lot of companies that do similar.

And a bunch of old articles ranging from reviews of 3d monitors, reviews of 3d glasses, old resumes, interviews with people in the hosting world for the hosting websites, an article on landing pages for PingZine, articles on SEO for Search Engine Marketing UK. Fun to read them over before deleting. And, some really hilarious old AIM logs from just so many things.

And, a whole lot of personal files with insight into younger ben.

What privilege looks like? Great lesson!

November23

Check out this great article on a lesson a teach used to show the class what privilege looks like (and the facts around social mobility). Might be a good lesson to run through with all your white friends who watch fox news and don’t seem to understand how many barriers are removed from their path at birth. Here is another good article to read too.

Thermal Revision & the Predator…

November10

I recently purchased a Flir One thermal camera, and this thing is so much fun. I’ve always wanted a thermal camera like the one in Predator and getting this little one that slips on the back of your iphone is a lot of fun :).

Will I keep it?

giphy (40)

Probably not, but it is fun :). My dad borrowed it to look for lost heat in his house and find ways to improve energy efficiency. I think it is a great product for DIYers trying to make their homes more energy efficient.

Chasing Giraffes & A Town In Romania

November2

Two things:

1. Giraffe’s are wicked fast.

2. I don’t know what they taste like, but I would imagine it is delicious. Especially the neck part of them.

I was telling Lindsey a story about South Africa last week and didn’t want to ever forget chasing Giraffes through the bush with Karl and a few Germans (world cup trip).

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Also, I was on a tour in Romania and the guide told us the name of the town we were driving through was something I can’t pronounce, and that when translated to english it means: “the place where wolves fuck”. Which is a pretty awesome name for a town, I wasn’t sure if it was one word or two in Romanian. But equally awesome is if Romanian has a single word that means something so elaborate.

Two travel stories I never want to forget :)

This is bwb’s personal blog, so he can share his thoughts with the world, however scary or silly they might be. Plus family and friends can track what I am up to, and where I am in the world.

I am pretty simple. I love Mangos. I love the ocean (although mostly at sunset, as I’m a ginger). I love to travel, eat exotic food, do long bike rides, read, and use my imagination. At some point, I decided it was better to be a pirate captain than an admiral. I am a globalist and see the entire world as my responsibility and playground. And I am married to an amazing woman who makes life even more fun :)! And we are now the proud parents of Calico Jack :).
